SS Pt. Reyes Shipwreck - Inverness, CA

Updated: Jul 23, 2020

If your planning a trip to the Pt. Reyes National Shoreline, make sure to stop off to check out the popular and most photographed shipwreck in Inverness. The small town of Inverness is on Tomales Bay and on your way put to the seashore. When you take Sir Francis Drake Blvd out west you will pass through the small town of Inverness on the right you will see the Inverness Grocery store. Turn off into the parking lot and park. Walk towards the water about two minutes from the edge of the parking lot you will see the shipwreck. Its pretty cool. The wreck is on private property behind and to the left of the store. Be mindful and respect the property. Try to refrain from climbing on the ship since it is in a bit of despair. Plus it suffered a fire back in 2016 when rumor of a photographer did a photo shoot there and a spark from the lighting caught it on fire. Sadly the shipwreck has been defiled with graffiti too, but still makes for a good photo of. Depending on the time of year and tides you can walk out to it and get a 360° view. Low tide brings in local fowl like Egrets. If you have some time take a walk along the shoreline trails or have a small picnic since there are some picnic tables around. The Inverness General Store has a deli and local fresh oysters for sale.
