I visited San Pedro Valley County Park a few weekends ago to do a hike with a friend. This park is a very nice place nestled right in the midst of a residential community with 1,100 acres of lush greenery offering many enjoyable outdoor recreation. If you live in the Bay Area travel south from San Francisco and take CA Hwy 1 down the coast just a short drive to Pacifica. Once in Pacifica you will want to head into the back of Linda Mar where the park is located. There is a $6 fee to park in the county park or you can find parking in the nearby neighborhood and walk in. There are several trails to take, even one to a waterfall (winter time if there has been rain). I've been wanting to do the Hazelnut trail but didn't want to do it alone. Its nice to hike with a buddy especially a semi - long trail (3.7 miles) just for safety. You never know what might happen on a trail known for mountain lion sightings. As with any park this park is home to mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, bobcats, deer and other wild animals. Make sure to have plenty of water as usual when hiking and I recommend definitely having some walking sticks. As for the Hazelnut trail I recommend it for those who are in good shape. If you start the trail from behind the visitor center your looking at about 2 miles of uphill hiking nonstop with an occasional bench to stop and take in the views. I wish I had brought my hiking sticks, probably would have helped a bit. It felt like it was more than 3.7 miles in turn it was about 5 miles total if you count the mile back to the visitor center. This trail ends in the back and connects to the Weiler Ranch trail. I can now say I survived it and had a few days of body aches to show for it. Let me tell you if you are not in shape this trail will kick.your butt. I am grateful I had my friend with me to keep me going. I do highly recommend going to San Pedro Valley park and go enjoy the trails and the beauty it offers
