At an astounding peak of 2,571 feet, Mt. Tamalpais towers over the North Bay. The view from the top is absolutely beautiful. On my visit there, there was lots of fog in the bay so you couldn't see Golden Gate Bridge, SF, or the majority of the bay. I was able to spot Mt. Diablo's peak in the distance peeking out of the fog. Mt. Tam is so majestic towering over the Marin County area that you feel like your on top of the world, especially when the fog has blanketed the Bay. The whole state park has many things you can do from hiking to camping to picnicking to wildlife watching. There is also an outdoor theater that hosts plays and astronomy events. There is a Gravity Car Barn which entails the history of the old Mt. Tam scenic railway. The park fee is $8, $7 for seniors. There are several parking areas so you can explore different areas. The best is parking at the peak and taking the 0.3 mile hike up to the Fire Observation tower. Now granted you can't go in or on the tower but all the area around it is explorable. The trails can be a bit strenuous for some, so make sure to have a good pair of shoes on. Always carry water when hiking and remember to take breaks to rest. Make sure to be cautious of your surroundings too. And remember be courteous to other hikers.
